NHAI Implements ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ Initiative for Enhanced Toll Collection Efficiency

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative to boost the efficiency of the Electronic Toll Collection system and streamline traffic movement at Toll Plazas. The initiative is designed to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a specific vehicle.

NHAI is actively promoting the completion of the ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) process for the latest FASTags, aligning with RBI guidelines. FASTag users are urged to update their KYC to avoid deactivation or blacklisting by banks after January 31, 2024, for FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC.

To ensure a smooth transition, users are advised to complete the KYC process for their latest FASTag and adhere to the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ principle. All previously issued FASTags through respective banks should be discarded, with only the latest FASTag account remaining active. Previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted post the mentioned date.

For assistance or queries, FASTag users can contact the nearest toll plazas or the toll-free customer care number provided by their respective issuer banks.

NHAI initiated this step following recent reports of multiple FASTags being assigned to a single vehicle and instances of issuing FASTags without completing the mandatory KYC process, contravening RBI mandates. Additionally, instances of FASTags not being affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen deliberately have caused unnecessary delays at toll plazas, inconveniencing fellow National Highway users.

With a penetration rate of approximately 98 percent and a user base exceeding 8 crores, FASTag has significantly transformed the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country. The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative aims to enhance toll operations’ efficiency, ensuring seamless and comfortable journeys for National Highway users.
