CM Majhi Calls Odisha Budget 2026–27 a Blueprint for Future Growth

Bhubaneswar: Emphasising long-term development and citizen participation, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday described the state’s 2026–27 Budget as a strategic blueprint aimed at transforming Odisha into a major economic force.

He made the remarks while addressing the ‘Ame Janiba, Ama Budget’ workshop at Lok Seva Bhawan, where the government outlined plans to simplify budget provisions for public understanding and gather feedback. Similar awareness programmes are being conducted across the state from April 1 to 14.

Highlighting the state’s long-term vision aligned with Viksit Bharat @2047, the Chief Minister outlined key targets such as raising per capita income to ₹32 lakh, reducing multidimensional poverty to 5 per cent, increasing women’s workforce participation to 70 per cent, and improving life expectancy beyond 80 years.

He noted that the ₹3.10 lakh crore budget reflects a 7 per cent increase over the previous year and focuses heavily on capital investment, with 31 new initiatives introduced to accelerate growth. Majhi reiterated Odisha’s ambition to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and reach $1.5 trillion by 2047.

Key sectors prioritised in the budget include infrastructure, industry, tourism, agriculture, education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. Major infrastructure plans include development of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradeep Economic Corridor (BCPPER) and projects under National Waterway 5 to strengthen logistics and connectivity.

Tourism initiatives such as the Shamuka Project in Puri and the Chilika Restoration Scheme are expected to boost economic activity while preserving natural heritage.

The budget also lays emphasis on rural development, job creation, and poverty reduction, with focused allocations for schemes like Subhadra, Lakshapati Didi, and Mukhyamandir Kanya Sumangal. Expansion plans in healthcare and education include new medical colleges, universities, and improved ICU facilities.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo described the budget as people-centric and expressed confidence that awareness drives would help ensure its benefits reach the grassroots. Senior officials, including Anu Garg, Deoranjan Kumar Singh, and Sanjeev Mishra, were present at the event.

Calling for public involvement, the Chief Minister urged citizens to engage with the awareness programmes and contribute feedback, stating that collective efforts will be key to achieving Odisha’s vision of inclusive growth and prosperity.
