Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi Appointed as Next Chief of the Naval Staff
New Delhi: The Government has appointed Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, presently serving as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. He will assume the esteemed position with effect from the afternoon of April 30, 2024. The incumbent Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, is set to retire from service on the same day.
Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, born on May 15, 1964, was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on July 01, 1985. With nearly 39 years of distinguished service, he brings to the role extensive expertise as a Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist. Prior to his tenure as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Tripathi served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
Throughout his illustrious career, Vice Admiral Tripathi has commanded several Indian Naval Ships, including Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul. He has also held a myriad of crucial operational and staff appointments, including Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet, Director of Naval Operations, and Principal Director of Network Centric Operations and Naval Plans in New Delhi.
In his capacity as a Rear Admiral, Vice Admiral Tripathi served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) and the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. Upon his promotion to Vice Admiral, he assumed the roles of Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Director General of Naval Operations, Chief of Personnel, and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.
An alumnus of Sainik School, Rewa, and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi has enriched his professional acumen through various courses, including stints at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington, the Naval Higher Command Course in Karanja, and the Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College in the USA.
