Prime Minister Narendra Modi Unveils PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for Free Rooftop Solar Electricity
New Delhi: In a significant move towards promoting clean energy, amendments have been introduced in the rules governing Rooftop Solar PV systems to streamline installation processes, ensuring quicker and more accessible deployment for prosumers.
One key amendment is the exemption granted for the technical feasibility study requirement for systems with a capacity of up to 10 kW. This change aims to eliminate unnecessary procedural hurdles, making it easier for individuals and businesses to adopt rooftop solar solutions seamlessly.
For systems exceeding 10 kW capacity, the timeline for completing the feasibility study has been notably reduced from twenty days to fifteen days. In cases where the study surpasses the stipulated timeframe, the approval will be deemed granted, avoiding unnecessary delays.
A crucial step towards supporting small-scale rooftop solar initiatives is the mandate that distribution system strengthening, necessary for systems up to 5 kW capacity, will now be the responsibility of the distribution company, and the costs will be borne by them.
Further optimizing the process, the timeline for distribution licensees to commission Rooftop Solar PV systems has been significantly shortened from thirty days to fifteen days. This adjustment is expected to expedite the entire setup process, enabling quicker access to clean and sustainable energy solutions.
These amendments collectively aim to encourage a more rapid adoption of rooftop solar systems, aligning with the broader national goals of transitioning towards sustainable energy sources and reducing the carbon footprint.
