Puri Station Modernisation: Train Services to Be Regulated from October 21 to January 11

Bhubaneswar: Several trains to and from Puri will be temporarily short-terminated or short-originated from October 21, 2026, to January 11, 2027, due to modernisation work at Puri Railway Station, where Platforms 5 and 6 and Platforms 3 and 4 are being upgraded.

The changes will affect passenger services connecting Puri with several destinations, including Rourkela, Shalimar, Sambalpur, Tirupati, Sealdah, Kamakhya, Indore, Valsad, Shri Ganganagar and Gandhidham.

Under the revised arrangements, some trains will terminate at Khurda Road, Sakhi Gopal or Malatipatpur instead of reaching Puri. Corresponding services departing from Puri will originate from these stations on specified dates.

The railway authorities said the measures are being undertaken to improve safety, operational efficiency and the long-term reliability of railway infrastructure.

Trains to terminate at Khurda Road

Three trains will terminate at Khurda Road from October 21, 2026, to January 11, 2027. These are the 18125 Rourkela–Puri, 68441 Jaleswar–Puri and 68413 Talcher–Puri services.

The 18039 Shalimar–Puri train will terminate at Khurda Road on October 25; November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; December 6, 13, 20 and 27; and January 3 and 10.

The 18017 Bhanjpur–Puri train will also terminate at Khurda Road on specified dates between October 22, 2026, and January 9, 2027.

The corresponding return services—18126 Puri–Rourkela, 68442 Puri–Jaleswar and 68414 Puri–Talcher—will originate from Khurda Road throughout the October 21–January 11 period. The 18040 Puri–Shalimar and 18018 Puri–Bhanjpur services will also start from Khurda Road on designated dates.

Sambalpur–Puri service affected

The 18303 Sambalpur–Puri train will terminate at Sakhi Gopal instead of Puri from October 21, 2026, to January 11, 2027.

Its return service, the 18304 Puri–Sambalpur train, will originate from Sakhi Gopal during the same period.

Long-distance trains to terminate at Malatipatpur

Several long-distance trains will terminate at Malatipatpur on designated dates during the modernisation period. These include:

  • 17480 Tirupati–Puri
  • 22201 Sealdah–Puri
  • 12145 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus–Puri
  • 15644 and 15640 Kamakhya–Puri
  • 20917 Indore–Puri
  • 22909 Valsad–Puri
  • 20471 Shri Ganganagar–Puri
  • 22973 and 12993 Gandhidham–Puri

The affected dates vary by train and extend from October 21, 2026, to January 11, 2027.

Their corresponding return services will also originate from Malatipatpur on specified dates. These include the 17479 Puri–Tirupati, 22202 Puri–Sealdah, 12146 Puri–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, 15643 and 15639 Puri–Kamakhya, 20918 Puri–Indore, 22910 Puri–Valsad, 20472 Puri–Shri Ganganagar, 22974 and 12994 Puri–Gandhidham services.

Passengers travelling on these routes are advised to check the applicable dates carefully, as the changes do not affect every scheduled run of the listed trains.

Passengers advised to check updates

Railway authorities have advised passengers to take note of the revised arrangements while planning their journeys. Travellers should confirm the termination or originating station applicable to their train and travel date before departure.

For the latest information, passengers can check the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) or the official Indian Railways website.

The temporary regulation of services is intended to facilitate station modernisation work while improving passenger safety and operational efficiency at Puri, one of Odisha’s major railway and pilgrimage destinations.
