Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar police have banned DJ music during Dussehra idol immersion processions in the city, warning that violations will result in the seizure of equipment and registration of criminal cases.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saravana Vivek M announced the restriction on Tuesday, saying the police had held two meetings with immersion procession organisers to explain the rules and discuss arrangements for the celebrations. The organisers had agreed to comply with the restrictions, he said.
“DJ music is prohibited during immersion processions in Bhubaneswar. If anyone violates the rules, the DJ equipment will be seized and a criminal case will be registered,” the DCP said.
He added that organisers seeking alternatives to DJ music had been advised to use traditional musical instruments during the processions.
The police have also made security arrangements for ‘Ravan Podi’ events scheduled at nine locations across the city. Permission has been granted for the events, and organisers have been issued safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
As part of the precautions, a minimum distance of 100 metres must be maintained in all directions from each event site. Fireworks storage facilities must be located at least 250 metres away from the venues, Saravana said.
Two platoons of police personnel will be deployed at each of the nine locations. Fire service teams have also been requisitioned to handle any emergencies.
The DCP expressed hope that the events would pass off peacefully and urged organisers to follow the safety guidelines and cooperate with police and fire service personnel.
Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made for the Dussehra Bhasani Utsav, or idol immersion ceremony, across Bhubaneswar.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has developed temporary immersion ponds at six locations to facilitate the ceremonies. Three ponds have been set up near the Kuakhai River, while the remaining three are located near the Daya River, Centurion University and in the Chandaka area.
A total of 48 platoons of police personnel, along with around 100 officers of various ranks, will be deployed to maintain law and order during the immersion processions, the DCP said.
The police have appealed to organisers and participants to follow the prescribed guidelines and cooperate with the authorities to ensure the peaceful conduct of Dussehra celebrations in the city.
