Regional Conference on e-Governance Inaugurated in Guwahati

Guwahati: The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), in collaboration with the Government of Assam, commenced a two-day Regional Conference on “e-Governance” in Guwahati today. The inaugural event witnessed the presence of the Governor of Assam, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, and Union Minister of State, Dr. Jitendra Singh.

In his address during the inaugural session, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the transformative impact of Prime Minister Modi’s governance reforms in mainstreaming the Northeast. He emphasized that path-breaking decisions taken by the government have significantly contributed to the region’s development, making it an exemplar of Modi’s development model. Dr. Singh stressed that the Union government’s reforms aimed at facilitating ease of governance and service delivery, citing the introduction of the Prime Minister’s Awards based on objective criteria for flagship schemes, promoting healthy competition among districts.

“The Swacchata campaign, which raised 1162 crore rupees by selling garbage, is a testament to positive changes across the country,” Dr. Singh remarked, underlining the importance of mainstreaming through thoughts and best practices.

Shri Paban Kumar Borthakur, Chief Secretary of the Government of Assam, and Shri V. Srinivas, Secretary, DARPG, also addressed the inaugural session. During the event, a booklet tracing the journey of 25 Regional Conferences and the e-journal MGMG (July – Dec, 2023 edition) on e-Governance Initiatives were released.

The primary objective of the conference is to bring together national and state-level public administration organizations to share experiences, innovations, and initiatives in public administration, with a focus on enhancing the quality of life, promoting good governance, and advancing e-Governance and Digital Governance. The two-day event provides a platform for representatives and officials from various states to present their initiatives and best practices for wider dissemination and potential replication.
