Ministry of Minority Affairs Approves Establishment of ‘Centre for Advanced Studies in Buddhist Studies’ at University of Delhi

New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at reviving the study and preservation of Buddhist heritage and culture among minority communities, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has given its nod to the establishment of the ‘Centre for Advanced Studies in Buddhist Studies’ at the University of Delhi. This initiative, sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) and the “Buddhist Development Plan” (BDP), is estimated to cost approximately Rs. 35 crore.

The primary objective of the proposed Centre is to foster collaboration between the University and the Ministry to enhance educational opportunities for minority communities, particularly in the field of Buddhist Studies. It will focus on developing the necessary infrastructure to offer Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Ph.D., and research programs in Buddhist Studies.

As part of the initiative, the University of Delhi will work closely with subject matter experts to develop curriculum guidelines and course materials for various academic programs, including certificate courses, diploma courses, and PhD programs in Buddhist Studies. These courses will be tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of minority students, ensuring inclusivity and relevance.

Additionally, the University will conduct training programs and workshops for faculty members involved in teaching Buddhist Studies courses, aimed at enhancing their pedagogical skills and subject knowledge. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to promoting quality education and research in the field of Buddhist Studies, with a focus on preserving the rich heritage and cultural legacy associated with Buddhism.

Furthermore, the Centre will facilitate research projects related to Buddhist Studies, encouraging faculty members and students to undertake interdisciplinary research that contributes to a deeper understanding and preservation of Buddhist culture and language. By fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary research, the Centre aims to create a conducive environment for the academic exploration and dissemination of knowledge in the field of Buddhist Studies.
