UAmit Shah Launches Digital Criminal Case Management System and NIA Branch Offices

New Delhi: In a significant stride towards bolstering India’s counter-terrorism and law enforcement capabilities, Union Home Minister Amit Shah virtually inaugurated a state-of-the-art digital Criminal Case Management System (CCMS) developed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi today. This milestone event also saw the e-inauguration of two new NIA branch offices in Jammu and Kochi, along with a residential complex in Raipur. Additionally, Shah unveiled a groundbreaking mobile application named ‘Sankalan’ – A compendium of New Criminal Laws by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

The Sankalan app, designed to bridge the gap between old and new criminal laws, will serve as a comprehensive guide for stakeholders, offering offline access to vital information in far-flung areas. Available for download on Google Play Store, Apple Store, and desktop versions, the app ensures accessibility to critical legal knowledge round the clock.

The user-friendly CCMS software, developed as a stand-alone version, will facilitate seamless data integration and digitalization of investigations for state police forces, enhancing their operational efficiency.

In his address, the Union Home Minister emphasized the importance of leveraging technology for effective law enforcement and urged State Directors General of Police to utilize the CCMS for expeditious investigations and operations. He highlighted the software’s role in organizing, integrating, and digitalizing investigation data, thereby enhancing conviction rates in sensitive cases.

The launch of the CCMS comes after Amit Shah’s call for a digital platform for law enforcement agencies during the ‘Anti-Terror Conference’ in October 2023. The software’s implementation is expected to standardize investigations and streamline terror-related data compilation across the country, addressing emerging threats from various terrorist organizations and cyber-related challenges.

The inauguration of the NIA branch offices in Jammu, Kochi, and the residential complex in Raipur underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the agency’s infrastructure. These modern facilities will provide NIA personnel with a secure environment to execute their duties effectively.

Shri Amit Shah emphasized that the CCMS would bolster cooperation between central and state agencies, including Anti-Terror Squads, and enhance supervision frameworks for senior police officers and prosecutors. He highlighted the system’s role in implementing new post-colonial era criminal laws, including Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

The launch of the CCMS and NIA branch offices marks a significant step forward in India’s fight against terrorism and organized crime, reflecting the government’s commitment to ensuring the nation’s security and safety.
