India Takes Giant Leap Towards Semiconductor Manufacturing with PM Modi’s Historic Address

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ‘India’s Techade: Chips for Viksit Bharat’ program, marking a significant milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a global hub for semiconductor design and manufacturing. Through video conferencing, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for three semiconductor projects valued at approximately Rs 1.25 lakh crores.

The projects inaugurated include a Semiconductor fabrication facility at the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) in Gujarat, an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Morigaon, Assam, and another OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about the role these projects would play in establishing India as a semiconductor hub. He emphasized the importance of the semiconductor industry in the 21st century and highlighted the government’s commitment to lead Industry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution.

The Prime Minister noted the virtual presence of semiconductor industry players from Taiwan, acknowledging the global interest and collaboration in India’s semiconductor initiatives. He emphasized the need for a reliable semiconductor supply chain, especially in the wake of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

PM Modi outlined the government’s efforts to simplify laws and encourage ease of doing business, citing the abolition of over 40,000 compliances and liberalization of FDI policies in various sectors. He stressed India’s growing position in electronics and hardware manufacturing, mentioning the country’s status as the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally.

Highlighting India’s technological advancements, the Prime Minister mentioned the initiation of India’s Quantum Mission, the establishment of the National Research Foundation, and the expansion of the AI Mission. He expressed confidence that these projects would create numerous advanced technology jobs for the youth.

PM Modi credited the youth of India for their role in the country’s progress, urging them to seize the opportunities emerging in various sectors, including space and mapping. He also highlighted the incentives and encouragement that have made India the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world.

The Prime Minister’s vision for India as a global semiconductor hub took concrete shape with the foundation stones laid for the three semiconductor projects. These projects, led by Tata Electronics Private Limited and CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, aim to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem, providing employment opportunities for thousands of youths and catalyzing growth in related sectors like electronics and telecom.

The event witnessed massive participation from youngsters, including thousands of college students and leaders from the semiconductor industry, showcasing widespread enthusiasm for India’s foray into semiconductor manufacturing. Prime Minister Modi concluded his address by urging everyone to contribute to India’s progress, emphasizing, “Modi’s guarantee is for you and your future.”

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, and other dignitaries were present during the historic occasion. The projects inaugurated today align with the Prime Minister’s vision of fostering employment opportunities for India’s youth and establishing the country as a global powerhouse in semiconductor manufacturing and technology development.
