India and Brazil Explore Agricultural Cooperation in High-Level Meeting

New Delhi: In a move to strengthen bilateral agricultural ties, H.E. Ronaldo Caiado, Governor of the State of Goiás, Brazil, met Bhagirath Choudhary, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi, today. The discussions focused on expanding trade and cooperation in sugarcane, ethanol, pulses, research and development (R&D), innovation, and digital agriculture.

Bhagirath Choudhary emphasized the deep and multifaceted relationship between India and Brazil, both bilaterally and through multilateral platforms. He noted that the Governor’s visit would help advance cooperation in agriculture by strengthening ongoing initiatives and exploring new areas of collaboration. He further highlighted that increasing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security would benefit the citizens of both nations.

Governor Ronaldo Caiado acknowledged the similarities between India and Goiás, emphasizing that both regions enjoy rich agricultural landscapes and favorable farming climates. He pointed out that this shared environment presents opportunities for collaboration in knowledge and technology exchange, capacity-building initiatives, and modern agricultural practices.

During the meeting, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), briefed the Brazilian delegation on India’s key agricultural initiatives, including crop insurance, agricultural credit schemes, and the development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) in agriculture.

The Brazilian delegation comprised senior officials from the State of Goiás and representatives from key industries, while the Indian side included Joint Secretary (IC), Advisor (Digital Agriculture), Advisor (Trade), ADG (IR), ADG (Food and Fodder Crops), ADG (Commercial Crops), and other senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture.
