Govt Expands E-Office Initiative to All Subordinate Offices and Autonomous Bodies
New Delhi: The Government of India has announced the expansion of its e-Office initiative to all attached, subordinate offices, and autonomous bodies, following the successful implementation in the Central Secretariat from 2019 to 2024. During this period, 37 lakh files, accounting for 94 percent of files, and 95 percent of receipts were handled electronically.
The decision, part of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) 100-days agenda, aims to further streamline and digitize government operations. On June 24, 2024, DARPG issued guidelines for the adoption of e-Office across 133 identified offices, following extensive inter-ministerial consultations.
In a significant inter-ministerial meeting chaired by Secretary DARPG, Shri V. Srinivas, and attended by officials from all Ministries, Departments, and Senior Officers from the 133 offices, the roadmap and technical modalities for the expansion were discussed. Smt. Rachna Srivastava, Deputy Director General of NIC, led the NIC team in presenting the procedural technicalities for implementing e-Office.
It was resolved that all Ministries and Departments would coordinate with their respective attached and subordinate offices and autonomous bodies to appoint nodal officers, establish data centers, and submit requisitions to NIC for the required number of users and licenses. This is in line with the government’s 100 days agenda to ensure a time-bound onboarding of the e-Office system.
