Foundation Stone Laid for Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: The Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, in collaboration with Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, laid the foundation stone for the Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN) along with a 100-bedded Yoga & Naturopathy hospital at Dihing Khamtighat in Dibrugarh today.

Spread over nearly 15 acres (45 bighas) with an investment of approximately ₹100 crores, the institution aims to bridge traditional knowledge of Yoga and Naturopathy with modern technology. It aspires to set benchmarks in education, preventive healthcare, and research in these fields, emphasizing evidence-based research and international collaborations.

Addressing the gathering, Sarbananda Sonowal shared that the institute, with its focus on Yoga and Naturopathy, is expected to empower Assam and the Northeast, fostering growth in Ayush, hospitality, patient care, and medical tourism sectors.

The CRIYN will serve as an incubation center for startups in the Yoga and wellness sector, offering clinical training facilities for capacity building programs in areas such as cardiac rehabilitation, diabetes rehabilitation, autoimmune diseases, and non-communicable disease (NCD) risk reduction.

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the Ayush system, adding central institutions and medical colleges across Assam. The hospital and research center are poised to benefit the people of Assam and the adjoining region by providing scientifically validated treatment through Yoga, Naturopathy, Ayurveda, and other traditional forms of medicine.

The event witnessed the presence of Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Labour & Employment, Rameswar Teli; Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Assam, Keshab Mahanta; Minister of Industries & Commerce and Culture, Bimal Borah; and other dignitaries.

The hospital will offer inpatient, outpatient, and day care services, providing a range of treatments such as naturopathy diet and nutrition, yoga therapy, massage & manipulative therapies, acupressure, acupuncture, chromotherapy, magneto therapy, physiotherapy, and hydrotherapy. It aims to address various health conditions, including obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory issues, migraines, autoimmune diseases, and cancer.
