Centre Sanctions ₹73,723 Crore for Railway Development in Odisha, Including New Projects and Station Redevelopment

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has sanctioned a significant ₹73,723 crore for the development of railways in Odisha, marking a major boost to the state’s infrastructure. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the approval, sharing the details of the development projects on social media.

One of the key highlights is the approval for the proposed Rayagada railway division in Odisha. A ₹107 crore tender has been called for the construction of the railway divisional office, which will enhance operational efficiency in the region. With this development, Odisha will have three railway divisions under the East Coast Railway.

In addition to the Rayagada division, the Centre has allocated funds for the redevelopment of 59 stations across the state under the Amrut Station Scheme, aiming to modernize the railway infrastructure and improve passenger amenities.

Minister Vaishnaw also highlighted the approval of eight new railway projects worth ₹19,289 crore during the Cabinet’s recent session. The approved projects, which will connect various parts of Odisha with enhanced railway infrastructure, include:

  1. Gunupur-Therubali New Railway Line
  2. Junagarh Road-Nabarangpur New Railway Line
  3. Malkangiri-Pandurangapuram via Bhadrachalam New Railway Line
  4. Badampahad-Kendujhargarh New Railway Line
  5. Bangiriposhi-Gorumahisani New Railway Line
  6. Budamara-Chakulia New Railway Line
  7. Sardega-Bhalumuda New Doubling Railway Line
  8. Bargarh Road-Nuapada Road New Railway Line

The Railway Minister also engaged in discussions with Odisha MPs, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, to further coordinate efforts for the effective implementation of these projects.

These developments are expected to significantly enhance the railway network in Odisha, improve connectivity, and boost economic growth in the state by providing better transport facilities for both passengers and goods. The initiatives align with the Centre’s vision to modernize India’s railway infrastructure and bring greater convenience to the people of Odisha.
