Odisha Nears Record Paddy Procurement as Kharif Season Enters Final Phase

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has nearly concluded paddy procurement for the 2025–26 Kharif season, with official data showing a strong performance that reflects steady growth in the state’s agricultural sector.

According to the latest figures, around 75.45 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have reached mandis across Odisha, out of which 75.20 lakh metric tonnes have already been procured, indicating that the process is in its final stage.

A total of 18.11 lakh farmers have sold their produce so far, benefitting from the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system. The state has disbursed approximately ₹22,337.60 crore towards MSP payments and input assistance, ensuring timely financial support to farmers through direct bank transfers.

Out of the total stock procured, millers have lifted about 73.46 lakh metric tonnes, reflecting smooth coordination between procurement agencies and rice millers.

Among districts, Bargarh continues to lead with over 7.69 lakh metric tonnes procured, followed by Kalahandi with 6.43 lakh metric tonnes. Ganjam and Subarnapur have also recorded significant procurement volumes.

Officials said the procurement drive has been carried out with a focus on transparency and efficiency, with all payments credited directly into farmers’ accounts to eliminate middlemen.

A comparison of recent years shows a consistent rise in procurement. The state recorded 58.03 lakh metric tonnes in 2023–24, which increased to 73.02 lakh metric tonnes in 2024–25, and has now reached nearly 75 lakh metric tonnes in 2025–26. The increase of over 16 lakh metric tonnes in two years highlights improved agricultural productivity and better procurement systems.
