Scientists in Wuhan have detected a new coronavirus, ‘NeoCov’ among bats in South Africa.
The scientists have warned that if it spreads among humans, it could have a high death rate and high transmission rate.
“It is only one mutation away from becoming dangerous for humans,” researchers said in a paper posted on preprint website bioRxiv.
The research findings stated that the novel coronavirus poses a risk because it binds to the ACE2 receptor differently than the coronavirus pathogen. As a result, neither antibodies nor protein molecules produced by people with respiratory diseases or who have been immunised can protect against NeoCoV.
