Work Permission Granted for Elevated Approach and Exit Road for Bhubaneswar Railway Station Redevelopment

Bhubaneswar: In a significant milestone for the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar Railway Station, the Odisha State Government has granted work permission for the construction of the Elevated Driveway and Exit Road on the Master Canteen side of the Station. This move marks an important phase in the ongoing modernization of the station and is expected to accelerate the overall timeline for the project.

The permission granted allows for the construction of the Elevated Approach and Exit Road on the land allocated by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA). This development is critical for ensuring smooth progress in the redevelopment project, which is being carried out through a collaborative effort between East Coast Railway (ECoR) and the BDA.

As part of the broader redevelopment plan, the development of parking areas and commercial spaces within the station precincts will be undertaken in close consultation with the BDA. The BDA is also planning to develop commercial areas over the land allocated to them, creating a modern and vibrant station complex that aligns the interests of both the Railway Station and the BDA.

The new Elevated Driveway will not only improve access but also expedite the completion of the Bhubaneswar Station Redevelopment project. Construction will begin immediately, with work on the foundation for the Elevated Driveway now underway. This redevelopment includes a complete overhaul of the station’s infrastructure, including new entry and exit routes, lifts and escalators on all platforms, and an air-conditioned concourse.

The Indian Railways has committed an investment of ₹419 crore to the project, which will introduce state-of-the-art facilities and amenities for passengers. These include entry points from both sides, a new air-concourse connecting all platforms, separate entry and exit points, lifts and escalators, a baggage security check-in area, an information center, a food plaza, and a waiting room, among others.

The Bhubaneswar Railway Station redevelopment is a key project under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Station Scheme, aimed at creating a world-class travel experience for passengers. With the recent approval, the project is on track to meet its deadlines and transform Bhubaneswar into a crucial hub in India’s railway network.
