Union Minister Inaugurates National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation in Sehore

Sehore, Madhya Pradesh: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Dr. Virendra Kumar, today inaugurated the National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation (NIMHR) in Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. This institute, under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), represents a significant stride toward advancing mental health rehabilitation and empowering Divyangjan across India.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Madhya Pradesh Ministers Karan Singh Verma (Revenue) and Narayan Singh Kushwaha (Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities), along with Member of Parliament Alok Sharma (Bhopal and Sehore) and Member of Legislative Assembly Sudesh Rai (Sehore).

In his address, Dr. Virendra Kumar praised the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in establishing NIMHR as a dedicated facility for mental health rehabilitation. He highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering Divyangjan, emphasizing initiatives like the Divya Kala Melas, which provide a platform to showcase their talents.

Karan Singh Verma noted that the institute would serve as a resource not only for the local community but also for individuals across the country. Narayan Singh Kushwaha commended the government’s efforts to enhance the quality of life for Divyangjan through such initiatives.

Spread across 25 acres, NIMHR boasts modern infrastructure built at an initial project cost of ₹127 crores. The campus includes four key blocks: the Service Block, Administrative & Academic Block, Hostel Block, and Studio Apartments. A Cross Disability Early Intervention Centre (CDEIC) is also set to become operational soon, alongside the Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendra (PMDK), which will distribute aids and appliances to Divyangjan and senior citizens.
