New Delhi: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh chaired a high-level review meeting of the Central Information Commission (CIC) today, lauding its nearly 100 percent disposal of Right to Information (RTI) appeals and the significant reduction in pending cases each year.
Addressing the meeting, Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted the remarkable progress of the CIC under the Modi government’s tenure, noting a substantial decrease in RTI appeals from 35,718 in 2019-20 to 22,666 in 2024-25. This achievement underscores the proactive role of the Information Commission in enhancing transparency and accountability in governance.
“The pendency of RTI appeals has seen a steady decline, which is a testament to the Commission’s efficiency and dedication,” said Dr. Jitendra Singh. He commended the CIC’s efforts in streamlining the process of providing information to citizens and emphasized the need to further expedite the disposal of appeals.
Dr. Singh reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in government operations. “PM Modi’s leadership underscores our commitment to citizen-centric governance,” he affirmed.
Highlighting the CIC’s exemplary performance during the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Jitendra Singh praised its uninterrupted functioning and noted the positive impact of opening a branch in Jammu & Kashmir, which facilitated easier access to information for residents.
Chief Information Commissioner Heeralal Samariya expressed gratitude for the government’s support and highlighted the Commission’s journey since gaining an independent office complex in 2014. He credited this development for enhancing operational efficiency and facilitating the timely disposal of second appeals.
