Bhubaneswar: Dr. Andrew Fleming, the British Deputy High Commissioner for East and Northeast India, inaugurated the pilot innovative Recycle Pay App during a ceremony in Bhubaneswar. The app has been developed by Ceiba Green Solutions, a startup incubated at the Atal Incubation Centre, Nalanda Institute of Technology Foundation.
The launch event was attended by key dignitaries, including Dr. Nihar Ranjan Sahoo, Chief Engineer of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Shri Rashmi Ranjan Sahu, Senior Mission Associate (Incubation & Partnership) at Startup Odisha, and Ms. Deepshikha Sarkar, Incubation Manager at Atal Incubation Centre, Nalanda Institute of Technology Foundation.
Dr. Fleming emphasized the commitment outlined in the India-UK Roadmap 2030 to address waste management challenges in India. The roadmap emphasizes smart and sustainable urbanization, making cities like Bhubaneswar key areas of cooperation. The focus is on promoting climate action, disaster risk reduction, effective solid waste management, circular economy practices, digitalization, and smart technology.
The pilot Recycle Pay App aligns with the Waste to Wealth mission, aiming to identify, develop, and deploy technologies that treat waste to generate energy, recycle materials, and extract valuable resources. This innovative app represents a step forward in the pursuit of sustainable waste management practices.
Dr. Fleming highlighted the collaborative efforts between the UK and India in education, research, innovation, and enterprise. The goal is to position both countries as mutual partners of choice and advocates for global good in shared priority areas such as health, circular economy, climate, clean energy, urban development, and engineering for healthier environments and waste-to-wealth initiatives.
The launch ceremony included a workshop on Recycle Pay App training, providing participants with insights into the circular economy business model. The event marked a significant stride towards promoting sustainable waste management practices and fostering collaboration between the UK and India in addressing environmental challenges.
