Surya Deo’s ‘Kali Paain Kalira Cinema’ wins Best Book on Cinema

Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia journalist, historian and cine critic Surya Deo’s ‘Kali Paain Kalira Cinema’ won the Best Book on Cinema (special mention) at the 68th National Film Awards announced by the I&B Ministry on Friday.

Published by Pakshighar Prakashanee, the book traces the evolution of Odia cinema with reference to 21 best Odia movies made over the years. The book contains some of the rare photographs and information which Deo collected from various sources over the years.

Speaking to The News Hashtag, Deo said, “At first I could not believe the news that my book has been selected. It is a big achievement for all of us

“Through ‘Kali Paain Kalira Cinema’ I tried to preserve the heritage of Odia film industry. I selected the best 21 Odia movies to narrate the journey of Odia film industry. Most of the write up used in the book were written journalism period and has been published in various newspaper and journals,” he shared.

Deo has been on a mission of preserving and documenting the legacy of Odia cinema for the past many years. “This is for our future generation, so that could see what has been done previously,” he added.
