Shri Sanjay Verma Takes Oath as Member of UPSC

New Delhi:  Sanjay Verma, a member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) since 1990, took the oath of Office and Secrecy as a Member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The ceremony took place in the Central Hall of the Main Building of UPSC, with UPSC Chairman Dr. Manoj Soni administering the oath.

Shri Sanjay Verma has had a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service, with various overseas assignments and roles at the Ministry of External Affairs. His diplomatic assignments include serving as Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, Ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti, and the African Union, Consul General in Dubai, and other key positions.

At the Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Verma has handled significant roles such as the China Desk, Aide (OSD) to the Spokesperson, Joint Secretary (DG) for Energy Security, and Chief of Protocol. His extensive experience in diverse diplomatic roles has contributed to India’s global engagement and bilateral relations.

Born and educated in Mumbai, Shri Sanjay Verma completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at Mumbai University’s Jai Hind College. He holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and received a Fellowship in International Studies from the University Grants Commission of India. His diverse interests include reading, music, popular Indian culture, films, and he is a university-level hockey player.

The appointment of Shri Sanjay Verma as a Member of UPSC reflects his wealth of experience and expertise in various domains, contributing to the commission’s vital role in recruiting and selecting candidates for various civil services in the country.
