Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh Approves Expansion of National Cadet Corps, Adding Three Lakh Cadet Vacancies

New Delhi: Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has given his nod to a proposal for the expansive growth of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by introducing an additional three lakh cadet vacancies. This expansion aims to address the growing demand for NCC participation from educational institutions across the country.

The NCC, which commenced with a modest 20,000 cadets in 1948, is now set to become the largest uniformed youth organization globally, with a sanctioned strength of 20 lakh cadets. The move aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, where NCC is offered as an elective subject, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering leadership and discipline among the youth.

With a focus on meeting the aspirations of the youth and encouraging them to become future leaders of the nation, this expansion will significantly impact the NCC landscape. The plan includes the establishment of four new Group Headquarters and the addition of two new NCC units, allowing for a more even distribution of vacancies across all States and Union Territories.

An integral part of the expansion initiative involves the proposal to employ ex-servicemen as NCC instructors. Leveraging their skills and vast experience, this move aims to ensure quality training for NCC cadets while simultaneously creating employment opportunities for veterans.
