
Bhubaneswar: Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department, conducted an inspection of several cyclone shelters in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area this afternoon, reviewing the preparedness and emergency arrangements in place ahead of the impending Cyclone ‘Dana’.
The visit is part of Odisha’s proactive approach to disaster management, as the state remains highly vulnerable to cyclonic events. With Cyclone ‘Dana’ expected to make landfall soon, ensuring that critical infrastructure is ready to protect citizens has become a top priority.
During her visit, Smt. Padhee evaluated key aspects of the cyclone shelters, including the availability of essential supplies such as food, water, and first-aid kits. She also inspected the functionality of power backup systems and the sanitation facilities, ensuring that these shelters are fully equipped to handle emergencies.
Accompanying Smt. Padhee were BMC Commissioner Shri Rajesh Pravakar Patil and senior officials, who provided updates on the coordination between local authorities, disaster management teams, and evacuation plans. The briefing highlighted efforts to ensure smooth operations during potential evacuation scenarios.
