President Murmu Hosts Banquet for Sri Lankan President Disanayaka at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, warmly welcomed H.E. Mr. Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (December 16, 2024). She also hosted a banquet in his honour.

During the occasion, President Murmu congratulated President Disanayaka on his recent victory in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka. She emphasized the importance of Sri Lanka as a key partner in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and SAGAR Vision, highlighting India’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s sustainable economic development.

President Murmu expressed her satisfaction with the Joint Statement adopted during the visit, which underscores the shared commitment of both nations to strengthening their multifaceted bilateral relationship. She reiterated that India’s development assistance to Sri Lanka aligns with the country’s priorities and needs, contributing to economic recovery and stability.

Reflecting on the historical ties between the two nations, President Murmu noted their significance in fostering a stronger and more resilient partnership.

Both leaders expressed confidence that President Disanayaka’s visit will enhance the momentum for advancing bilateral relations, promoting peace and prosperity for the citizens of both countries.
