PM Modi Lays Foundation Stones for Development Projects Worth ₹7600 Crore in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects in Maharashtra worth over ₹7600 crore today via video conference. The projects include the modernization of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur, and the construction of a New Integrated Terminal Building at Shirdi Airport. Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated 10 new Government Medical Colleges and launched the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS), Mumbai, and Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) in Maharashtra.

Addressing the event, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the transformative development projects, including infrastructure upgrades and the addition of 10 new medical colleges. “Maharashtra is being presented with 10 new medical colleges and important infrastructure projects, including the modernization of Nagpur Airport and the construction of a new terminal at Shirdi Airport,” said the Prime Minister, congratulating the people of Maharashtra for these advancements.

PM Modi recalled his earlier visits to Maharashtra, where he inaugurated projects worth ₹30,000 crore and noted that numerous initiatives had been undertaken across the state, from airport expansions to solar energy and textile parks. He emphasized that Maharashtra’s rapid development, touching various sectors, is unprecedented.

The Prime Minister also referred to the recent recognition of Marathi as a classical language, expressing pride in fulfilling the aspirations of Maharashtra’s people. “The recognition of Marathi as a classical language was a result of the blessings of the people of Maharashtra,” he said.

Highlighting the 10 new medical colleges, PM Modi emphasized their contribution to increasing medical seats by 900, raising the state’s total to around 6000. He reaffirmed his commitment to adding 75,000 medical seats across India and noted that these new colleges would provide more opportunities for students, especially from underprivileged backgrounds, to become doctors. He also celebrated the government’s decision to allow medical education in Marathi, giving students the option to pursue medicine in their mother tongue.

PM Modi underscored his government’s commitment to healthcare improvements, mentioning schemes like Ayushman Bharat and the availability of affordable medicines through Jan Aushadhi Kendras. He remarked, “The Modi government has provided a strong shield of social security to the poorest of the poor.”

The Prime Minister emphasized that the development of India’s youth is crucial for the country’s progress. He spoke of aligning India’s youth with global standards through projects like the Indian Institute of Skills and Vidya Samiksha Kendra in Maharashtra. PM Modi also introduced the initiative of paid internships, where students will receive ₹5000 during their internships, creating opportunities for young professionals.

On Maharashtra’s tourism potential, PM Modi noted that the new terminal at Shirdi Airport would benefit devotees of Sai Baba and boost tourism. The upgraded Solapur Airport will also enable easier access to nearby spiritual destinations, further enhancing the state’s tourism economy.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s vision of “Viksit Bharat”, with a focus on development that benefits the poor, farmers, youth, and women. He highlighted the separate cargo complex at Shirdi Airport, which will aid farmers by facilitating the export of agricultural products like onions and grapes. He also outlined several measures to support farmers, including reducing export duties on rice and edible oils.
