Odisha wins Wind India 2026 award for leadership in wind energy de-risking

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has received national recognition for its efforts to promote renewable energy, winning the Wind India 2026 Award for “Leadership in Wind Energy De-risking” at the Windergy India 2026 summit.

The award was presented to Dr. Satyapriya Rath, Managing Director, GRIDCO, by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi in the presence of industry leaders and government representatives.

The recognition highlights Odisha’s efforts to create an enabling environment for wind energy development, attract private investment and accelerate the state’s transition towards clean energy under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy.

Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo welcomed the recognition, saying it reflects the state government’s commitment to expanding clean energy generation and creating conditions conducive to private investment in the renewable energy sector.

Odisha also used the Windergy India 2026 platform to showcase its wind energy potential to domestic and international investors through a dedicated state session titled “Odisha: India’s Next Wind Destination.”

Setting the context for the session, Dr. Rath outlined Odisha’s strategic advantages and the policy measures aimed at converting the state’s wind potential into commercially viable and scalable projects.

The session focused on the theme “From Potential to Investment”, with discussions centred on key factors required to develop bankable wind energy projects.

These included wind resource assessment, project bankability, land and site readiness, grid connectivity, turbine logistics and long-term regulatory certainty.

The state government’s participation at the summit is aimed at strengthening investor confidence and positioning Odisha as an emerging destination for renewable energy projects.

The Wind India 2026 award, coupled with participation from industry stakeholders, is expected to further strengthen Odisha’s efforts to attract investment into the wind energy sector.

Officials said the recognition reflects the state’s broader focus on developing a sustainable and investor-friendly renewable energy ecosystem while contributing to India’s clean energy transition.

With its policy initiatives and efforts to address key project execution challenges, Odisha is seeking to establish itself as one of the country’s promising destinations for future wind energy development.
