PM Modi Calls for AI-Driven Policing and Security Innovations at 59th DGP/IGP Conference in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need for technologically advanced and community-driven policing during the valedictory session of the 59th All India Conference of Director Generals/Inspector Generals of Police in Bhubaneswar. Held on November 30 and December 1, the conference witnessed high-level deliberations on emerging security challenges and strategies.

During the session, the Prime Minister distributed the President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service to Intelligence Bureau officers and praised the conference for fostering comprehensive discussions on national and international security dimensions.

PM Modi expressed concern over digital frauds, cybercrimes, and the misuse of AI technologies such as deepfakes, which could disrupt social and familial bonds. He called for converting these threats into opportunities by leveraging India’s dual strengths in Artificial Intelligence and “Aspirational India.”

He expanded the concept of SMART policing, urging officers to adopt strategies that are Strategic, Meticulous, Adaptable, Reliable, and Transparent. Highlighting urban policing successes, the Prime Minister suggested implementing best practices in 100 cities nationwide.

Advocating for the use of technology to streamline constabulary workloads, PM Modi proposed transforming police stations into resource allocation hubs. He also suggested organizing a National Police Hackathon to tackle critical issues innovatively.

The Prime Minister called for increased focus on coastal and port security, urging the preparation of a comprehensive action plan to safeguard these critical areas.

Recalling the contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, PM Modi encouraged the entire security apparatus to mark Patel’s 150th birth anniversary in 2025 by setting and achieving goals to enhance police professionalism and public image.

The conference covered a range of topics, including counter-terrorism, left-wing extremism, cybercrime, immigration, coastal security, narco-trafficking, and the security dynamics along India’s borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Strategies to counter malicious narratives and a review of newly enacted criminal laws were also key discussion points.

The conference featured Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the National Security Advisor, the Union Home Secretary, and over 750 officers who joined physically and virtually. The hybrid format enabled broad participation from DGsP, IGsP, and CAPF/CPO heads, ensuring diverse perspectives on pressing security issues.

PM Modi’s address laid a clear roadmap for modernizing and aligning India’s police forces with the vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), reaffirming the government’s commitment to a secure and progressive nation.
