Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to usher in a new era of healthcare with the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), which aim to provide health insurance coverage to 3.5 crore people in the state. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling made the announcement on Sunday, emphasizing the transformative potential of the schemes.
With a population of 4.3 crore, the first phase of the initiative will cover the majority of Odisha’s residents. Beneficiaries will soon receive personalized cards enabling them to access cashless treatment under the new schemes. The minister confirmed that financial provisions have already been made to ensure the seamless rollout of these initiatives.
Replacing the previous Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), GJAY will operate alongside the AB PM-JAY to expand treatment options. Unlike BSKY, which was restricted to 956 empanelled hospitals, the new schemes will allow beneficiaries to access a much broader network of healthcare facilities across India.
“The benefits will be provided in assurance mode, ensuring comprehensive coverage for eligible families,” said the minister. This marks a significant step in Odisha’s efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility for economically disadvantaged sections.
The introduction of these schemes is expected to bridge critical gaps in healthcare delivery, offering advanced medical treatment options both within and outside the state. By combining resources and expanding facilities, Odisha aims to ensure affordable and quality healthcare for its people.
