Odisha Mourns the Loss of Centenarian Freedom Fighter Nilamani Samal

Bhubaneswar: Odisha bid a tearful farewell to one of its distinguished freedom fighters, Nilamani Samal, as he breathed his last at the age of 102 in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Medicine ward at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Suffering from age-related complications, Samal, a resident of Balichandrapur in Jajpur district, had been receiving treatment for several days before his demise. The centenarian was admitted to SCBMCH’s Medicine ward a few days ago, where he succumbed to his ailments.

Nilamani Samal played a significant role in India’s struggle for independence, enduring three years of imprisonment under the British government. Hailing from Jajpur district, he served as the president of the freedom fighters’ association in Odisha, leaving an indelible mark on the state’s history.

In recognition of his unwavering commitment to the freedom movement, Samal was honored with the Presidential awards twice, a testament to his dedication and sacrifice for the nation. As the state mourns the loss of this veteran freedom fighter, his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
