Bhubaneswar: In a landmark move to acknowledge and protect the rights of forest-dwelling communities, the Odisha government has launched the ‘Mo Jungle Jami Yojana’ (My Forest Land Scheme). The initiative aims to ensure the right to hold and inhabit forest land for eligible Scheduled Tribe (ST) forest dwellers across the state.
The launch of ‘Mo Jungle Jami Yojana’ represents a significant stride in addressing the long-standing issue of forest land ownership and the rights of ST communities residing in these areas. The scheme aligns with the government’s commitment to fostering social justice, inclusivity, and sustainable development.
Under this pioneering scheme, eligible ST forest dwellers will be granted legal recognition and ownership of the forest land on which they reside and depend for their livelihoods. This recognition will provide them with a sense of security and empowerment, enabling them to safeguard their cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, and forest-based way of life.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, ” The ‘Mo Jungle Jami Yojana’ will empower ST communities, strengthen their bond with the forests, and pave the way for inclusive development.”
The implementation of the scheme will involve a systematic and transparent process that includes identifying eligible beneficiaries and conducting surveys to demarcate forest land. The government will collaborate closely with forest departments, local administrations, and community representatives to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the scheme.
