Odisha Launches ‘Atal Bus Stand’ Scheme to Modernise Public Transport Infrastructure

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has rolled out the Atal Bus Stand Scheme to develop modern, passenger-friendly bus terminals across the state.

The initiative aims to establish state-of-the-art bus stands at district, sub-divisional, and block headquarters, as well as in urban local bodies and key tourist destinations. These facilities will be categorised into A, B, and C classes based on commuter demand and transportation requirements.

Designed as a comprehensive reform, the scheme will bring all existing bus stands under a unified framework to ensure standardised development, efficient operations, and streamlined management. The upgraded terminals will function as integrated public transport hubs, serving both government and private operators while offering a range of passenger-centric services.

With a strong focus on improving commuter experience, the scheme also seeks to enhance operational efficiency and boost revenue generation. Officials noted that the initiative will play a crucial role in strengthening connectivity, supporting tourism, and facilitating economic growth.

The project will be implemented by the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation, with an approved outlay of ₹3,400 crore up to the financial year 2031–32.

Beyond infrastructure development, the scheme is expected to promote inclusive and sustainable growth by improving access to transport services across urban and rural areas.
