Odisha Introduces One-Day Menstrual Leave for Female Employees

Cuttack: In a groundbreaking and inclusive move, the state of Odisha has announced a one-day menstrual leave for female employees working in both the state government and private sectors. This progressive policy was revealed by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida during the district-level Independence Day celebrations in Cuttack, coinciding with the 78th Independence Day.

The announcement marks a significant step forward in recognizing the physical and emotional challenges many women face during their menstrual cycle. Women can now avail this leave on either the first or second day of their menstrual cycle, offering them the flexibility and support they need.

“Earlier, menstrual leave was not allowed. Now, women employees can avail themselves of the leave on the first or second day of their menstrual cycle. It is optional for them and will be applicable in both the government and private sectors,” stated Deputy Chief Minister Parida.

This landmark decision is seen as a major advancement in creating a more supportive and understanding work environment. By implementing this policy, Odisha sets a precedent for other states and organizations to follow, promoting gender equality and enhancing workplace well-being.
