Odisha Govt to Provide Advance Rice Supply to Beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar: In a decisive move to enhance food security for residents, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed the Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Department to distribute rice in advance for the months of October to December. During a review meeting held at Lok Seva Bhavan, Majhi instructed officials to ensure that each beneficiary of the Food Security Act receives 15 kg of rice.

According to official sources, approximately 40 lakh households have yet to receive their allotted rice under the Food Security Act. Recognizing the urgency, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for immediate action to expedite the distribution process.

The meeting also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Odisha government to include all laborers who have registered on the e-Shramik website. As of now, around 1.31 lakh laborers remain unregistered online. Majhi ordered officials to prioritize the inclusion of these workers in the Food Security Act to ensure that no eligible laborer is left out.

To date, over 1 crore 30 lakh laborers have registered on the e-Shramik portal. Additionally, the Chief Minister instructed officials to integrate Pravasi Odia laborers into the One Nation One Ration scheme and to carry out the necessary e-KYC processes.

The meeting was attended by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal, and Principal Secretary Vir Vikram Yadav, all of whom are committed to implementing these directives efficiently.
