CARA Launches Adoption Awareness Month 2024 Focusing on Foster Care and Adoption of Older Children

New Delhi: The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, has declared November as National Adoption Awareness Month, focusing on raising awareness about the legal process of adoption in India. This year, the theme is “Rehabilitation of Older Children through Foster Care and Foster Adoption,” spotlighting the needs of older children, those with special needs, and those currently in foster care.

To mark the occasion, the Ministry of Women and Child Development is hosting a major event in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on November 21, where stakeholders from across the country will gather to support and promote legal adoptions.

CARA has organized a comprehensive campaign blending offline and online events to broaden public understanding and engagement on adoption issues. States including Ladakh, Assam, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, and West Bengal have planned special events to support the initiative. These events will bring together prospective adoptive parents (PAPs), adoptive parents, older adoptees, and various stakeholders to share experiences, engage in discussions, and participate in cultural programs, competitions, and Q&A sessions.

Aiming to reach a wider audience, CARA has also launched an online campaign in partnership with MyGov India. The campaign includes storytelling sessions, poster-making competitions, slogan-writing, pledges, and surveys available on the MyGov portal. CARA’s social media platforms will also feature informative content to further promote awareness about legal adoption, foster care, and foster adoption.

By prioritizing the adoption of older children and those with special needs, this year’s National Adoption Awareness Month aims to create a more inclusive adoption process, ensuring that every child finds a supportive and nurturing home.
