Odisha Govt Disburses ₹5,000 to 35 Lakh Women Under Subhadra Yojana’s Second Phase

Baripada: The Odisha government, continuing its efforts to empower women, deposited ₹5,000 each into the bank accounts of around 35 lakh women on Wednesday as part of the Subhadra Yojana. This marks the second phase of the first installment under the scheme, aimed at providing financial assistance to women across the state.

At a grand event held at the Chhau Ground in Baripada, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi personally released the funds to the beneficiaries. He was joined by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and other dignitaries, underscoring the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment.

The Subhadra Yojana, a flagship initiative of the ruling BJP government, was one of the key promises in its Sankalp Patra (election manifesto). The scheme was formally launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhubaneswar on September 17, coinciding with his birthday. During the launch, 25 lakh women had already received ₹5,000 in their bank accounts.

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive ₹10,000 annually, distributed in two installments of ₹5,000 each—one during Rakhi Purnima and the second on International Women’s Day (March 8). The program is set to run for five years, aiming to provide continued financial support to women across Odisha.

In this phase, women who had been excluded from the first round of disbursement due to various reasons but submitted applications by October 7, were able to receive their funds.

Chief Minister Majhi reiterated the state’s focus on strengthening the socio-economic status of women through the Subhadra Yojana, which provides not just financial support, but also fosters a sense of security and empowerment for women across Odisha.
