Bhubaneswar: Odisha FC maintained their position at the summit of the ISL standings with a crucial point secured from a goalless draw against Mohun Bagan at the Kalinga Stadium on Saturday. The top-of-the-table clash saw both teams competing fiercely, with Odisha FC now holding 32 points from 16 matches.
Facing a formidable challenge from Mohun Bagan, Odisha FC’s defense stood resolute, denying the visitors any successful attempts on goal. Despite numerous opportunities created by Mohun Bagan, the home team’s defense, led by goalie Amrinder Singh, emerged victorious.
Early in the game, Armando Sadiku delivered a promising ball to Dimitros Petratos, but the Australian striker couldn’t convert the chance. On the other side, Odisha FC’s Isak Ralte had a shot saved by Bagan’s Vishal Kaith.
Mourtada Fall blocked Sadiku’s shot, and the Albanian forward had several close calls, but the combined efforts of Odisha’s defenders and goalkeeper thwarted his attempts.
In a stroke of bad luck for Odisha FC, Diego Mauricio’s shot hit the crossbar in first-half stoppage time.
Mohun Bagan, vying for a victory to overtake Odisha at the top, intensified their efforts in the second half. However, Petratos’ attempt was expertly saved.
Roy Krishna missed a golden opportunity in the 62nd minute, failing to convert after an impressive run.
In the dying minutes, Mohun Bagan almost clinched a late winner, but Amrinder Singh made a crucial save, parrying away Jason Cummings’ header in stoppage time.
Odisha FC will now face East Bengal on February 29 at the Kalinga Stadium, looking to maintain their lead in the ISL standings.
