Cuttack: In a moment of remarkable courage and presence of mind, Constable/1 Tulu Behera of Odisha Police saved the life of a passenger who slipped while attempting to board a moving train at Cuttack Railway Station on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at 8:05 a.m. when Md. Mujahir, a 44-year-old man from Mirjapur in Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, was trying to board Train No. 22503 (Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Express), en route to Kishanganj. As he climbed the steps of the moving train, he lost his balance and slipped dangerously close to the gap between the platform and the train.
Just as the situation threatened to turn fatal, Constable Behera rushed to the scene and, without hesitation, grabbed the passenger’s hands and pulled him to safety. His quick reflexes and unwavering determination prevented what could have been a tragic accident.
The heroic act did not go unnoticed. Y.B. Khurania, IPS, Director General of Police, Odisha, lauded Constable Behera’s bravery and announced a reward of ₹2,500 in recognition of his service. Additional Director General of Police, Coastal Security and Railways, Arun Bothra, also spoke personally with Behera, commending his alertness and courageous action.
