Odisha Charts Bold Roadmap to $500 Billion Economy by 2036 with ‘Vision 2036–2047’ Initiative

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today unveiled the state’s ambitious plan to transform Odisha into a $500 billion economy by 2036, coinciding with the centenary of the state’s formation. The announcement was made at a state-level Consultative Workshop on ‘Vision Odisha 2036 and 2047’, held at the Convention Hall of Lok Seva Bhawan.

At the heart of this transformative plan lies the ‘36 for 36’ initiative, which outlines 36 strategic programs aimed at making a tangible impact across critical sectors over the next decade. These programs will be implemented through a ‘Whole of Government’ approach, encompassing key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, industry, innovation, women’s empowerment, tribal welfare, and the preservation of Odia language and culture.

“This vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias and a promise to future generations,” said Chief Minister Majhi, who emphasized that the draft of the vision document is already in place and currently undergoing expert consultations before finalization. The workshop was the first in a series, with regional workshops scheduled to be held in Sambalpur, Balasore, and Jeypore to ensure wider stakeholder engagement.

The Chief Minister stressed that the goal is not only economic growth but also inclusive development, ensuring that basic facilities reach every citizen, especially those at the grassroots level. He reiterated Odisha’s commitment to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, and affirmed Odisha’s resolve to be a significant contributor to that national mission.

One of the key highlights of the workshop was the extensive public participation in shaping the vision document. Over 3.2 lakh suggestions have been received from citizens across the state and the global Odia diaspora. Notably, Odisha has become the first state in India to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze public feedback, ensuring data-driven and inclusive policy planning.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, underlined the importance of empowering women as a cornerstone of Vision 2036. She proudly announced that 17 lakh women in Odisha have already become ‘Lakhpati Didis’, surpassing earlier targets under women entrepreneurship and livelihood missions.

Other dignitaries present at the workshop included Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Law and Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Textiles and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, along with Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and Development Commissioner Anu Garg.
