“Fun in Sun” Summer Camp Engages Over 500 Students in Creative and Experiential Learning

Bhubaneswar, May 9: The ongoing summer camp “Fun in Sun” at DAV Public School, Pokhariput, has become a huge success with over 500 students participating in a wide array of engaging and skill-based activities. The camp has provided students with a unique opportunity to explore their talents beyond the classroom and embrace hands-on, creative learning. While the events under “Art Activities,” “Musical Sensation,” “Dancing Stars,” and “Sports and Yoga” concluded on Thursday, the youngest learners, from LKG to Standard II, continue to enjoy the vibrant sessions under the theme “Crafts Haven,” which will run until Tuesday.

At “Crafts Haven,” tiny tots have immersed themselves in exciting and colorful activities such as pasting, printing, paper craft, bracelet and hairband making, earthen pot decoration, stone art, kinder cooking, photo frame making, and drawing. The sessions have been designed to enhance fine motor skills, stimulate imagination, and offer children a chance to express themselves freely through craft.

Young participant Vaddi Riyaan Kumar, a student of LKG, expressed his excitement, saying that he enjoyed learning pasting, bracelet making, and earthen pot decoration. He shared that he hopes to continue these hobbies as he grows up. Another student, Adeesha Kanungo from Standard II, said that the kinder cooking session gave her creative ideas to make smart dishes from simple home ingredients, and she found the cooking activity both useful and fun.

In other segments of the camp, students delved into clay modeling, paper mask making, tie and dye techniques, and craftwork under “Art Activities.” The “Musical Sensation” module introduced them to music therapy with sargam, piano playing, patriotic songs, and “sishu sangeet” in various languages. Under “Dancing Stars,” girls were trained in the traditional Sambalpuri dance form, learning rhythmic movements and cultural expression. “Sports and Yoga” sessions offered physical activity and mental relaxation, rounding off the holistic learning experience.

The summer camp was smoothly coordinated and conducted by a dedicated group of teachers and mentors. The enthusiasm and energy among the students brought the campus alive with creativity, performance, and joy.

Principal Bipin Kumar Sahoo congratulated the students for their enthusiastic participation, stressing the importance of life skills in shaping a student’s overall personality. He stated that developing at least one hobby alongside academic pursuits can lead to a happier, more balanced life.

Sanghamitra Satapathy, the morning session supervisor, noted that “Crafts Haven” served as the perfect platform for young children to channel their creative energy meaningfully. She added that the camp’s design is in line with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes experiential and activity-based learning over traditional lecture methods. According to her, this approach makes learning more engaging, participatory, and effective.
