OCC Board Approves ₹3,673 Crore Worth of Projects; Major Irrigation and Tourism Works in Focus

Bhubaneswar: The 292nd Board of Directors Meeting of the Odisha Construction Corporation (OCC) Ltd. was held today under the chairpersonship of Anu Garg, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources Department. The meeting reviewed ongoing projects and approved several key works worth ₹3,673 crore, marking a major push for the state’s infrastructure and water resource development.

According to the review, projects worth ₹86 crore in mechanical works are currently underway, along with several others from departments such as Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Science and Technology, and Tourism.

Under the tourism sector, the OCC will execute the Integrated Development and Upgradation of the Master Plan for the Hirakud Reservoir Area and its surroundings, which includes a light and sound symphony, arrival plaza, and a dam museum, with an investment of over ₹100 crore. The project aims to enhance tourism infrastructure and promote the Hirakud region as a major tourist destination in western Odisha.

The meeting also discussed progress on key irrigation infrastructure projects. The Kusabhadra Interceptor Sewer System (ISS) is expected to be completed by June 2026, while the Kuakhai ISS will be finished by December 2026. The completion of these projects will pave the way for the development of a riverfront near Bhubaneswar and play a vital role in the rejuvenation of the dying Prachi river.

In addition, it was informed that the Kanupur Dam has been completed, and work on the spillway is in progress, targeted for completion by December 2025. Once completed, the project will help control floods in the Baitarani basin and facilitate irrigation across 30,000 hectares in Keonjhar district.
