Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Unveils Visionary Sagarmala Program at Republic Day Parade

New Delhi: During the 75th Republic Day parade, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways proudly presented its tableaux, showcasing the transformative Sagarmala Program that has become a catalyst for port-led development.

The front segment of the tableaux highlights the Ministry’s commitment to gender inclusivity, showcasing a remarkable 1100% increase in the number of women seafarers over the past nine years. This reflects the theme of “Nari Shakti Driving the Blue Economy” under the “Sagar Samman” initiative.

The central portion proudly displays achievements in port efficiency and capacity augmentation through Sagarmala’s modernization initiatives. Major ports have experienced a substantial capacity boost, doubling from 800 MTPA to 1617 MTPA, with a turnaround time of 0.9 days, aligning with global standards. The ‘AmritKaal Vision 2047’ introduces a Port-led industrialization initiative, developing industrial clusters around ports to reduce logistic costs and stimulate economic growth.

The rear part of the tableaux showcases the Ministry’s initiatives in lighthouse and cruise tourism development, aligned with the ‘Swadesh Darshan’ and ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ Scheme of the Government of India, aiming to unlock the potential for cruise tourism and showcase India’s rich maritime heritage.

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, emphasized, “MoPSW is committed to increasing the strength of our ‘Nari Shakti’ in the Maritime sector to keep pace with twenty-first-century expectations.”

The confluence of “Maritime India Vision 2030” and “Maritime AmritKaal Vision 2047” stands as a powerful testament to India’s commitment to steering its maritime sector toward a future marked by dynamism, sustainability, and global excellence. These visions collectively embody the aspirations of a nation determined to harness its vast maritime potential as a catalyst for economic growth.
