Ministry of Defence Boosts Naval Capabilities with 12.7mm Stabilised Remote Control Guns Contract

Kanpur: In a significant move towards bolstering indigenous defence capabilities, the Ministry of Defence has officially inked a contract with Advanced Weapon Equipment India Ltd. (AWEIL), Kanpur, on February 14, 2024. The agreement entails the manufacturing and supply of 463 indigenously produced 12.7mm Stabilised Remote Control Guns (SRCG) for the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, amounting to a total cost of Rs. 1752.13 crores. Impressively, the contract boasts an Indigenous Content (IC) exceeding 85%.

The cutting-edge SRCG technology is poised to elevate the operational prowess of the Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard, enabling precise engagement with small targets that pose threats to naval vessels. This capability is designed for optimal performance in both daytime and nighttime scenarios, enhancing maritime security in asymmetric environments.

This strategic procurement aligns seamlessly with the vision of “Aatmanirbharta in Defence,” reinforcing India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing. The contract is anticipated to catalyze growth in the sector, providing a significant opportunity for more than 125 Indian vendors and Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) over a span of 5 years.

The contract not only signifies a milestone in advancing indigenous defence technologies but also stands as a testament to India’s dedication to fortifying its naval capabilities through state-of-the-art equipment.
