Meghalaya To Upgrade Infrastructures of 200 Schools

Shillong: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday has decided to upgrade the infrastructures of 200 schools this year. A budget of Rs 100 crore will be allocated for the upgradation of the schools.

The decision was taken after Meghalaya was ranked lowest in terms of education in the NITI Aayog  report. The recent rank of Meghalaya in terms of education came as a surprise, as over the past many years the state has been listed as top performers.

Briefing the media, Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said, “The recent Performance Grading Index (PGI) report by the Centre has ranked Meghalaya at the bottom in the ranking table. It is an eye-opener for the education department.”

In the NITI Aayog report, the state scored 649 points out of 1000 which is a low score in comparison to other states.
