Rajnagar: The enchanting waterways of Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha are soon to host a unique experience for tourists—overnight stays on four Catamaran Cruises. Funded by the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP), these luxury cruises will offer an unparalleled journey through the dense forest, promising tourists a blend of comfort and adventure.
DFO Sudarshan Gopinath Yadav shared the exciting news, emphasizing that the Catamaran Cruises, acquired eight years ago for Rs 6 crore, will finally set sail on Bhitarkanika waterways. Originally intended for a different purpose, the cruises were dormant for years until the Tourism Department decided to repurpose them for tourism. The responsibility of managing and operating the cruises was entrusted to a Delhi-based company, Heritage River Journeys Pvt Ltd, 20 months ago.
Two Catamaran cruises are currently docked at Gupti, and the remaining two are expected to join them shortly. Under the agreement, Heritage River Journeys Pvt Ltd will contribute Rs 5.20 lakh annually to the Tourism Department, covering employee salaries and other arrangements. Each cruise is designed to accommodate four people, offering a night stay experience amidst the breathtaking surroundings of Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary.
