IPL 2024 Season to Witness Dual Bouncer Rule and Continued Review of Stumping Decisions

ChennaiThe upcoming 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) promises a twist in the playing conditions as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to retain the rule allowing bowlers to deliver two bouncers per over, marking a departure from the traditional single bouncer rule.

This move follows the introduction of the second bouncer rule earlier this year in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), a national T20 championship, with the BCCI opting to extend this regulation to the highly anticipated IPL season.

Moreover, the BCCI has opted to retain the unique rule of checking for a catch while reviewing stumping decisions, deviating from the standard ICC regulations. According to BCCI officials, this decision ensures fairness towards the fielding side, preventing potential injustices arising from missed catch assessments during stumping referrals.

Additionally, teams participating in the IPL will maintain the privilege of two referrals per innings, with the ability to review wides and no balls, a rule introduced last year. However, the controversial stop clock rule, recently implemented in ICC white-ball international games, will not be enforced in the IPL.

With these adjustments in the playing conditions, the IPL 2024 season promises to deliver exhilarating encounters between bat and ball, providing fans with gripping moments and intense competition throughout the tournament.
