Mumbai: Aruna Tanwar, India’s para-taekwondo sensation, marked a historic achievement on Sunday by clinching a gold medal in the women’s 47 kg category at the Asian Para-Taekwondo Qualifying Tournament held in Tai’an, China. With this remarkable feat, Aruna secured her place in the 2024 Paralympic Games set to be held in Paris.

The Sports Authority of India announced Aruna’s qualification through a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. This accomplishment adds another milestone to Aruna’s illustrious career, making her the first Indian para-taekwondo player to qualify and participate in consecutive Paralympic Games.

Having previously represented India at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, where she clinched the bronze medal in the Hangzhou 2022 event, Aruna is now set to embark on her second Paralympic journey in Paris. Her consistent performances and dedication have propelled her to the forefront of Indian para-sports, inspiring countless individuals across the nation.

Joining Aruna in securing Paralympic quota places for their respective countries are Palesha Goverdhan of Nepal and Allain Ganapin of the Philippines. Palesha earned her spot in the women’s 57 kg category, while Allain qualified in the men’s -80 kg division, marking their second Paralympic appearances.
