Indian Naval Squadron Concludes Successful Training Deployment in Mauritius

Port Louis:  The First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy has wrapped up its visit to Port Louis, Mauritius, marking the culmination of a significant Long Range Training Deployment. Comprising the vessels INS Tir and CGS Sarathi, the squadron’s visit coincided with the 57th Mauritius National Day celebrations, spotlighting the enduring maritime collaboration between India and Mauritius.

The visit was characterized by various engagements aimed at bolstering maritime cooperation and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations. Notably, a naval contingent along with a helicopter participated in the Mauritius National Day city parade, which was graced by Smt. Droupadi Murmu, the Hon’ble President of India, serving as the Chief Guest.

For the Indian Naval trainees, the visit proved to be a rich learning experience. They had the opportunity to visit the Maritime Air Squadron and Police Helicopter Squadron of Mauritius, gaining valuable insights into the maritime operations of the host country. Additionally, as part of a cross-training initiative, personnel from the National Coast Guard of Mauritius received training on small arms handling and firefighting aboard the 1TS ships.

The visit reached its climax with joint exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability between the Indian and Mauritian forces. These exercises included Passage Exercise (PASSEX) and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) drills, which not only strengthened operational coordination but also underscored the shared commitment to regional security.

Prior to docking at Port Louis, the 1TS undertook joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance with the Mauritius Coast Guard Dornier, demonstrating a concerted effort to safeguard maritime interests in the region. This collaboration not only promotes maritime security but also reinforces the longstanding diplomatic and cultural ties between India and Mauritius.

In essence, the conclusion of the First Training Squadron’s visit underscores the enduring partnership between India and Mauritius in the maritime domain. As both nations continue to navigate the complexities of regional security, such engagements serve as a testament to their shared commitment towards fostering stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
