New Delhi: The 4th edition of Exercise HARIMAU SHAKTI, the annual joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Malaysian Regiment, commenced today at Bentong Camp in the Pahang district of Malaysia. Scheduled to run from December 2 to December 15, 2024, the exercise aims to bolster the counterinsurgency capabilities of both armies in jungle warfare under the United Nations Chapter VII Mandate.
The Indian Army is represented by 78 personnel from the MAHAR Regiment, while the Royal Malaysian Regiment has deployed 123 personnel for this year’s edition. HARIMAU SHAKTI is conducted alternately in India and Malaysia, with the last exercise held in November 2023 at Umroi Cantonment, Meghalaya, India.
The exercise will unfold in two phases:
HARIMAU SHAKTI serves as a platform for the two nations to exchange Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for conducting joint operations. The collaboration fosters interoperability, mutual trust, and camaraderie between the participating forces.
This initiative is also a testament to the deepening defence ties between India and Malaysia, contributing to the broader framework of bilateral relations and regional security.
The exercise not only sharpens military acumen but also reinforces the commitment of both nations to peace and stability in the region. As HARIMAU SHAKTI progresses, it stands as a symbol of shared dedication to enhancing defence capabilities and fostering international cooperation.
