New Delhi: Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Indonesia, Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto, M.D.S., co-chaired the 7th India-Indonesia Joint Defence Cooperation Committee (JDCC) meeting in New Delhi today. The meeting showcased the commitment of both nations to bolstering their defence cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties.
The discussions during the meeting underscored the mutual satisfaction at the expanding scope of defence cooperation between India and Indonesia. Both sides reviewed the progress made on various bilateral defence cooperation initiatives, including those discussed in meetings of Working Groups on Defence Cooperation and Defence Industries Cooperation.
A key focus of the meeting was identifying means to enhance existing areas of collaboration, particularly in defence industry ties, maritime security, and multilateral cooperation. The dignitaries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence ties and exploring new avenues of partnership.
As part of his visit, the Secretary General visited the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) headquarters in New Delhi, as well as TATA Advanced Systems and L&T Defence facilities in Pune. He engaged in discussions with prominent Indian defence industry partners such as Bharat Forge, Mahindra Defence, and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited to explore opportunities for cooperation in research and joint production, aiming to enhance defence industrial capabilities.
The Secretary General also called on the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, during his visit, further strengthening bilateral defence engagements.
Air Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto, M.D.S., is on a visit to India from May 2 to 4. As part of his visit, he paid homage to the fallen heroes at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, symbolizing the shared commitment to peace and security.
India and Indonesia share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and have a shared vision of the Indo-Pacific region. The partnership is marked by robust cooperation in both bilateral and multilateral arenas, reflecting the close ties and frequent high-level interactions between the two nations. Indonesia holds strategic importance in India’s Act East Policy and the broader Indo-Pacific region.
